Julius Schorzman “A Small Cup of Coffee”

What is the best way to brew coffee? This is an important question because coffee is often the highlight of our morning routine. It brings us back to life from our newly awoken undead state.

We have several ways to prepare a cup today. Should we prepare a cup and contribute to the landfill by using the Keurig method. Should we use a French Press? Should we use the pour over method? Should we perk it up with a percolator? Should we get out the coffee machine and let the coffee drip down into the old glass pitcher.

Well, I suppose it really depends on what you value. Do you value time? Do you value flavor? I am not going to go into an eco-friendly rant. I am only going to discuss ease and flavor. This keeps the topic pleasant and I believe it is the message everyone wants to be conveyed from the mountaintop.

Now, I am not going to speak like a sage on Sinai about absolute commandments on brewing the perfect cup. I am going to give you my views on the matter. I believe you will agree with me after trying the various methods for yourself if you have not already.

The quickest and most convenient method may be the drip. I have not done my pricing, however, I believe this method is more economical than buying Keurig ponds. The downside of the drip methods is it often does deliver as rich a flavor other methods.

From my experience, the pour-over method delivers the best flavor.  The pour-over methodology also is fairly quick. Granted, the pour-over method is not as convenient as drip, however, the hands-on approach of this method is well worth it if you want to ensure the full-flavor potential of your favorite blend-of-bean.

The French press is also a great path to ensuring rich coffee, however, it is really easy to overdo it. It also requires you to wait a bit longer than the other common brewing methods.
